This time I will deliver a speech about plagiarism

What comes to your mind when I mention the word plagiarism? Will you think about the kind of action of plagiarism or will you think about the definition about plagiarism itself? Yes, both are the same and will lead to one word, namely plagiarism.

Plagiarism is a form of crime that mimics in full or in part the work of another person without mentioning the source, which will have an impact on the original writer. Why do I classify plagiarism in the form of crime? Because the perpetrators of plagiarism have brought harm to the original author by violating the copyright of his work and crime itself is a form of action that harms others, physical and non-physical.

If you explore the reason why some people will choose this shortcut, we will be faced with many possibilities and the main possibility is that there is no creative thinking in expressing or creating a new work.

Lately, many social media users want to look attractive and cool by sharing their moments on their social media accounts, not infrequently they also add aphorisms and edit photos on their photos to enhance the appearance of photos, but not everyone has the same level of creativity to produce an interesting work and for that it is not uncommon to find similarities with one photo with another that is different, this is also included in the form of plagiarism. Because if you observe recently that there is a function shift from the actual social media, social media is one of the ways to be able to connect with friends from different regions now become a means to gain popularity by becoming a celebrity in social media.

To get popularity from social media, one of the conditions that must be fulfilled is to get a lot of likes and following, and to get it all they have to prepare an interesting and new work that can be an item sold to gain that popularity.

Not only on social media, in the world of education that highly upholds a scientific thought can not be separated from the influence of plagiarism offered. As an example in writing, writing is one of the many scientific activities carried out by people who are in the world of education such as when writing scientific reports, research proposals and even doing final assignments in lectures which are all done by playing words in writing. Scientific writings will be very uneducated if obtained from the results of plagiarism, will be questioned the authenticity and validity of the data contained in the writing that will have an impact on doubts and distrust of the results of the writing.

With the presence of such a clear effect, there are still many students and teachers who still carry out this plagiarism. Though it would be very embarrassing if the perpetrators of plagiarism were revealed and crossed out from certain educational institutions.

One example of this again is the appeal not to do plagiarism when Gunadarma University students in the third year will conduct a required scientific research campus to fulfill one of the graduation requirements. The purpose of scientific research conducted by students in this third year is to have the ability to think scientifically so that in the future it can solve complex problems easily and in organized thinking, this scientific research assignment is the first major assignment given by the campus before they get the assignment the real final is the preparation of final scientific research to achieve graduation at this university level in the fourth year later.

In the procedure for preparing this scientific research report, students are faced with new problems, namely, they must determine the topic of the problem they will solve in this study, and this is not an easy matter. Many students are still confused about what they want to do for scientific research so they choose to take shortcuts to do plagiarism, which is to imitate the topic of the problem that has been discussed before by students who have graduated without mentioning the source.

Not only on the topic of the problem, plagiarism can also be done by the perpetrator to imitate the results of research, this will be easy if the topic of the problem with each other is the same. Again, in the world of education it is unfortunate if this good opportunity which aims to hone critical and scientific thinking skills is wasted by committing a crime called plagiarism, the task of writing this scientific research report is real evidence in three years what students have learned and can be one measure in the success of learning.

Because of the very serious impact of this form of plagiarism crime, the government feels that it is necessary to draft a statutory regulation which specifically discusses plagiarism, until finally the government regulation number 28 of 2014 which regulates copyright, finally states that rights copyright is intellectual property that has a strategic role, with the advancement of the development of technology, language and literature so that it requires an increase in copyright protection for the creator, with the existence of legitimate laws and regulations so that the punishment for the perpetrators of infringing plagiarism is clear.

Then how can we freely quote someone else's work without being called plagiarism? The way is to include the source of information that we get from the creator, so the things we do are not copying the work of others, but we only quote.

So as a person who understands legislation and at the same time as a student, I personally urge the audience not to commit invisible crime that can hurt and harm other people called plagiarism.
